One-to-One Sessions Introduction

Welcome to your one-to-one sessions in the Embodied OT program.
These sessions are really your space to dive deep into whatever you need most—whether that's personal growth, somatic coaching, or professional supervision.

What do we each bring to the supervisory relationship?
My approach to supervision is collaborative and empowering. I see supervision as a mutual process where we learn alongside each other, guided by curiosity, respect, and safety.

I bring experience, frameworks, and somatic practices that can support your growth, while you bring your unique perspective, lived experiences, and learning goals. Together we co-create the direction of our sessions, ensuring that what matters most to you is always at the centre.

In these sessions, you have the choice to guide the focus. If you're here for personal somatic exploration, we can work with whatever's arising for you in the moment—things like addressing burnout, finding a life-work balance, or reconnecting with your body in a gentle, supportive way.

Alternatively, if you'd like to use the time as a supervision session, we can absolutely do that. In that case, I'll invite you to reflect on five key questions—like what your specific learning goal is, why it's important right now, what experiences or skills you can draw on, What do you want the supervisor to help with? and what you want to take away from the session?

Preparation for supervision:

Reflect on five key questions:

  1. what your specific learning goal is?
  2. why it's important right now?
  3. what experiences or skills you can draw on?
  4. What do you want the supervisor to help with? and
  5. what you want to take away from the session?

In this role as providing supervision or somatic coaching for your personal wellbeing goals, I am deeply honoured to walk beside you in this journey. It is a learning opportunity and a unique space that we can enter together with preparation and understanding of each other’s needs, hopes and learning styles

The group program is general learning, these sessions bring it home to your personal needs and individual learning goals.  Ultimately, these sessions are all about removing whatever might be in the way of you feeling like a truly somatic, embodied OT and bringing those practices to your clients with confidence. So we’ll shape it together in the way that serves you best.

Let's have a look at some relevant learning goals- you can choose from something inspired or included here, or choose something that is “off the menu” here and make up your own learning goals.

Learning goals can be categorized as from one of 4 domains:

Organizational, clinical, professional or personal wellbeing

  • Organizational /contextual- directly related to your workplace, or organizational context, funding system etc.
    • Managing expectations
    • Caseload management
    • Organizational values, ethics
    • Funding challenges eg. NDIS, COVID etc
  • Clinical- consider all the clinical competencies and maybe consider the client journey from intake to discharge, and all the skills along the way that you may want to explore:
    • Intake and building rapport/safety
    • Assessment
    • Case formulation
    • Clinical reasoning
    • Treatment planning
    • Goal setting and engagement
    • Education
    • Treatment implementation
    • Monitoring progress
    • Treatment review
    • Referring to other resources/collaboration/MD team
    • Carers and support people
    • Discharge planning
    • Documentation and reporting
  • Professional goals
    • Interpersonal skills- communication, giving and receiving feedback, delegating, negotiation etc
    • Self-leadership and Intrapersonal goals eg. Time and energy management, boundary management, values, career development etc
    • Broader PD skills- research, leadership and management, strategic planning, cultural awareness, change management etc
  • Personal Wellbeing:
    • How does your professional life impact your wellbeing?
    • Are you vulnerable to professional burnout or compassion fatigue?
    • Personal issues or dynamics that impact on role?
    • Stress, vicarious trauma, moral injury
    • Understanding your personal triggers and reactions
    • Reflective learning goals- reflect on life-work balance
    • Proactive learning goals
      • Self-care plans
      • Resilience plans
      • Self awareness
      • Set better boundaries
      • Reduce people pleasing/over functioning/perfectionism
      • My goal is to…Leave work on time; take regular breaks; leave work at work; sleep and wind down better in evenings etc

So, in summary – these are some possible learning goals, as expanded into key areas of Organisational, professional, clinical and personal wellbeing goals. If you can identify the area you wish to hone in on, specify the goal, name it and go through a process of reflecting on those 5 key questions, which are included in the reflection resource attached here in the downloads section.

In this way, you can really achieve a focused, energizing and effective opportunity for learning in these sessions and throughout this whole program. You can bring some of these questions also to the group sessions and we can address them as we go where possible.
